چکیده

A new species of the genus Gammarus Fabricius, 1775 is described from Lake Tong Tso, an extreme high-altitude lake in Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. pontual sp. nov. considered part lacustris G.O. Sars, 1863 group, which characterized by having inner ramus uropod 3 longer than half length outer ramus, and both rami covered with plumose setae. The stands apart their congeners, mainly, following combination characters: head cephalic lateral lobe truncated; gnathopods 1-2 propodus weakly armed, 1 stout seta defining palm; palm posterior margin propodus, main medially; pereopods 5-7 basis slender, crenulate; epimeral plate produced into a short spine, facial ridge present; plates 2-3 posteroventral corner sharply pointed; setae, about 80% ramus; telson apex 2 setae on each side.

Redescription of Gammarus pseudosyriacus (Karaman & Pinkster, 1977) and description of a new subspecies from southern Iran (Crustacea, Amphipoda, Gammaridae)

The present study focused on redescription of Gammarus pseudosyriacus (Karaman & Pinkster, 1977) based on new materials from Zagros Mountains and describes a new subspecies of freshwater amphipod, Gammarus pseudosyriacus issatisi subsp. n., from the southern Zagros Mountains. The work is based on morphological and morphometric comparisons. This new subspecies has features similar to Gammarus ps...

A new species of the genus Gammarus (Crustacea: Amphipoda: Gammaridae) from the low salinity habitats in the northern Gulf of Mexico

In the northern Gulf of Mexico, Gammarus mucronatus sensu lato is represented by at least two forms, G. mucronatus sensu stricto and a less common “macromucronate” form, which appears to be restricted to low salinity habitats. These two forms have traditionally been separated using the size or angle of projection of the dorsal mucronations (processes). However, because of variability in the dev...

Evolutionary study on two closed Gammarus (Crustacea, Amphipoda) species from Zagros Mountains (IRAN) using molecular methods

Mitochondrial Cytochrome Oxidase Subunit I DNA sequences are a good discriminative marker for phylogenetic studies in crustaceans and especially in amphipoda. In the present study, molecular and morphological data were analyzed to test whether Gammarus lobifer authority and Gammarus balutchi authority which one or two geographically separated but morphologically similar species. The analyses pr...

Taxonomic relationship between two Gammarus species, G. nipponensis and G. sobaegensis (Amphipoda: Gammaridae), with description of a new species.

To assess the taxonomic relationship between G. nipponensis and G. sobaegensis, morphological features and molecular phylogenetic relationships using the nuclear 28S rRNA and the mitochondrial COI genes were examined. Detailed morphological observations revealed that G. nipponensis and G. sobaegensis were clearly distinguishable. In addition to the morphological differences, these two species w...
